Pitch in pink

Copywriter for a comic strip sent as a next-level cold pitch to Mary Kay.

Cheil wanted to send a custom cold pitch to Mary Kay, and luckily for us, we had Chad. Chad was the resident artist who specialized in comics. Which means that for the first time in my life, I got to write "script" for an actual, hand-drawn comic. My copywriter heart was so excited, but this pitch wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. The turnaround was tight, and I was whipping out titles and lines faster than a bat out of — hello.

Even when the timelines are tight, I don't sacrifice quality. So I did the research and learned that Mary Kay used her life savings, five thousand bucks, to start her brand. But she didn't stop at just her own success; she created a business model that allowed thousands of women to succeed, finding the confidence, financial security, and independence that Mary Kay herself once dreamed of, too.

I used this knowledge to back every line, especially "Mary Kay never shies away from tomorrow," which thoughtfully conveys the brand’s pioneering spirit. If you enjoy a good play on words, you may like my favorite line all the way at the bottom: "Mary Kay X Cheil. Best applied together."
